Fungi as far as the eye can see. They move in not only on cameras, but also on shoes, cotton shirts, leather belts, and even on skin and nails if one is not careful. When a spider sheds its skin the fungi immediately take it over. If a cicada dies on a leaf it will be moldy green within just a few days. If a leaf falls on the ground it is immediately colonized and decomposed. The warm, humid climate of the Amazon is a paradise for fungi and bacteria that fall upon dying organisms so quickly that a humus layer can't even develop. Fungi have a key position in the tropical rainforest with their decomposing activities.
